Painting Challenge Update!

Stu's painting challenge may be well over, but I'm still progressing towards my goal, albeit a tad late! From undercoating to just needing the helmets finished, I should be able to have these fellas ink washed before next weekend!

A month or so back, these guys had just been stuck to the bases, now they're finished!!

Painting Challenge Update!

A day off work to look after sick kids means only one thing.... a little extra time to paint! So my current batch if British Airborne are ready for ink washing and then highlighting!

Slow Progress

Slow progress on Stu's Painting challenge, managed to put a base coat on the turret, and touch up the base coat on my Secret Purchase. Other than that, made a bit of progress on my two story building, but discovered that the kit pieces don't fit well together, so I'm gonna have to plug some holes with DAS.

Weekend Work Roundup

As well as undercoating one tank, I also managed to undercoat the next four bases of my Airborne Army, as well as putting the base coat down on my Secret Purchase.

And because I had time, I've also stared on a bombed out and burnt down two story farm house using a few spare bits that Stu gave to me.

I really should start building the actual gaming table at some point!

Undercoating

With the weather improving I decided to set up a spray station in the garage and undercoat my first tank. I'm gonna have to touch up a few spots with a brush, but then it's onto the paining!

If I'm happy with the results, I'll do the remaining 4 tank in one go.

Painting Challenge Progress!

With the arrival of my 'secret purchase' I figured I couldn't justify painting them unless I painted some more British Airborne at the same time. So here's the proof, I've cleaned them, ready for undercoating, possibly later tonight.

Tank Production: Ready for Painting!

Tanks ready for painting... just not sure when to undercoat them with Chaos Black spray paint - it's been very wet and damp, so I'm thinking it would be better to wait for a dry sunny day?

The Art of DAS

I've tried several ways of basing my figures, and I've not been entirely happy with any of the ways. The best way I found when doing my Germans was to use a bucket of left over GIB Plus 4 ready mixed compound. The main problem with this was that it was very messy, and as I paint my figures before basing them (silly me) I needed something that was cleaner, less messy to apply.

So I started using DAS. It's a pliable putty form, and whilst it id far from perfect - it's a pig to use, and take a bit of time - I do like the relative cleanness off it, and the ability to easily press a patter into it (I use the rounded end of one of my painting brushed to give the ground a walked over feel).

The biggest problem with DAS is that it is an 'air hardening compound' so once the packed is opened you have to find somewhere airtight to store it. The best place I've found was one of my wife's new Tupperware containers.

I've been using the same block of DAS for about six months now, and it's still in good working order.

I'm in a painting funk, I can't seem to get motivated to do anything.

Painting Challenge: Parachute Company

Progress is slow this week because I've been busy at work, but the first four bases of my Parachute Company have been glued, next up is the actual 'basing'....

Painting Challenge: Royal Engineers

Royal Engineers = 125pts... probably the smallest segment of my Army, but it's a start!

Painting Challenge Update!

First stage of my Brit Airborne almost painted - just need to do camo strips on helmets, paint a few straps that I missed, ink wash and base them..... not a bad weekend of painting.

Stu's Painting Challenge!

Call me crazy, but I've decided not only to take part in Stu's painting challenge, but I'm also going to attempt to build a portable gaming table at the same time, complete with scenery!

I've got off to an early start, but thats only because I haven't primed everything yet like Stu has...

All going to plan, my Brit Airborne Army and my Normandy table should be completed within the next 3 months....

Stay tuned!
